Concerns for the environment and rising fuel costs have understandably meant more and more people are looking to increase the energy efficiency of their homes, particularly by installing or replacing double glazing.
With a high quality double glazed sealed unit such as the Glevum range, energy savings come from the heat retaining glass and the argon gas contained between the panes, absorbing both heat and noise.
Peace of mind and choice
Double glazed windows are given a WER (Window Energy Rating) on a scale from A – G, just like white goods such as washing machines. Any new windows installed must have be C’ rated or above to be classed as energy efficient and to comply with building regulations. At Glevum, we offer a range of double glazing products rated from ‘C’ to ‘A’ rating, to allow you balance energy efficiency improvements and value. For the ultimate in energy efficiency performance, Glevum now also offer a triple glazing range which has the maximum A++ rating. See here for more on Triple Glazing.
The WER rating also contributes to the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate), the information that sellers are legally obliged to provide to potential buyers. Windows that have been rated ‘energy efficient’ undoubtedly give your home extra sales potential.
Increased Comfort – Reducing condensation
Condensation can be a real problem, particularly if your current home does not have double glazing or units that need to be replaced. It is caused by several factors depending on your property, but well-fitted high-quality double glazing can help significantly.
Condensation occurs when moisture build up ‘condenses’ on the nearest coldest surface – an uninsulated window pane. A double-glazed window acts as an insulator, increasing the surface temperature of the glass so condensation does not form. Well-fitted double glazed doors and windows also increases the general warmth in the house which reduces the incidences of condensation.
Installing high specification sealed units from Glevum can really improve day to day living for all the family if condensation has been a concern for your health or home.
An adequate air flow through the home is also important to reduce condensation and make your whole home feel more comfortable in all weathers. Ask our Glevum design consultant about our ‘trickle vent’ feature.
